70 Years Ago My Uncle Died for His Country

70 years ago, my uncle John E. Russell, 905th Field Artillery Battalion, 80th Infantry Division, US Army, was seriously wounded in action near St. Mihiel, France. Sometime that day, he died of his wounds.

According to the company morning reports from August 31 and September 1, his battalion left Châlons-en-Champagne, France, that morning. He was a member of Battery “A.”

Here’s a Newsreel snippet from that very day, and that very Division: Sept 1, 1944, 80th Infantry Division in Europe, World War II 1944: http://youtu.be/7kjbMJyQ8wg via @YouTube
