Persuasive Arguing

In today’s Daily Office, the reading for Morning Prayer from Acts says several interesting things, things I would not have believed could be found in scripture. For example, we have “disciples” who are re-baptized. We have Paul “arguing persuasively” and having “discussions” about the kingdom of God. Paul “argued” daily for two years in the lecture hall of Tyrannus.

So much for letting your actions speak for themselves. There seems to be a place for hearty argument about the faith. I realize there’s probably a lot more to this story, and perhaps the translation makes it difficult to understand the context.

There are some really strange and disturbing accounts following this passage in Acts 19 about demons.
