One Way In and One Way Out

Read this well-written story about a day in the life of a platoon in Afghanistan. Several things stick out to me. First, there’s the issue of trust, as trumpeted in the headline. Can the Afghan police accompanying the American soldiers be trusted? There’s also the fact that several members of this platoon have been deployed multiple times. As the father of a recently deployed soldier, I can’t imagine what it must be like for the families of these men who are on their third or fourth deployment.

“Everyone knows there is one way in and one way out,” one squad leader said. “I don’t like it.” via In Mission With Afghan Police, Issues of Trust – NYTimes.com.
